Sea Turtle Rescue and Rehabilitation Program
Sea Turtle Rescue cares for injured sea turtles who have encountered a hazard. Fishing lines, hooks, netting, prop strikes, or some other hazards leave these amazing creatures in great peril. The Sea Turtle Rescue Team of volunteers provides medical treatment, care,
and rehabilitation in an effort to save these great and powerful sea creatures.
Sea Turtle Rescue conducts nightly beach patrols. The Sea Turtle Rescue Team searches for sea turtles that have come to lay their eggs on the beach, as a part of our Hatchery Program
It is during nesting that the Sea Turtle Rescue team has the opportunity to conduct an examination of the sea turtle. The trance that the turtles are in, allow the Sea Turtle Rescue Team to determine the health of the animal without her ever realizing we are even there. If a sea turtle has an injury that is treatable, then the Sea Turtle Rescue Team will use every resource available to save the turtle. If a sea turtle has netting or some other entanglement then we remove the hazard and then guard her until she returns back to the nurturing waters of the sea. In some cases the team will escort the turtle into the sea and to determine if more care is needed.
Sea Turtle Rescue and Rehabilitation Program is the only sea turtle rescue facility of its kind in Northwest Nicaragua. These injured sea turtles need our help and you are their only chance at survival.
We can’t save these endangered sea turtles without your help! Please, help us help these amazing sea creatures by donating your time, talent, or money.
